Yes, it is definitely politics. After reading Two Cents Per Mile: Will President Obama Make it Happen With the Stroke of a Pen?, I have a whole new take on electric vehicles and energy system in general. We had the technology for 100% electric cars that got up to 200 miles per charge. But the Department of Energy, oil companies and car manufactures got together (despite anti-trust laws) to decide what direction the U.S. should be headed for alternative vehicles. Meanwhile, Chevron oil got the rights to the NiMH batteries that powered the Toyota RAV4-EV and the EV-1 (of Who Killed the Electric Car fame). These cars met the needs of 95% of drivers but since Chevron holds all the patent right to the battery, we cannot have them. Now the Volt is being shoved in our face bragging that it gets 40 mile son pure electric? BIG DEAL. This battery is ONE FIFTH as effective as the NiMH yet Obama is pouring billions of tax dollars into research for these inferior technologies. Read Cefo's book Two Cents Per Mile to learn all the dirty little secrets surrounding the most effective electric car battery ever made. Thankfully, Cefo offers a solution to get the technology back.
